'Once On This Island' Field Trip

Our spring musical is 'Once on This Island'. This highly original and theatrical Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid” sings and dances the story of Ti Moune, the peasant girl who rescues, nurses and falls in love with Daniel, a young man from a wealthy family. When Daniel is returned to his people, the gods who rule the island guide Ti Moune on a quest to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice, hatred and death.

We will be taking a field trip to Eastpointe, MI to see East Detroit High School's production on Friday, 11/30. Permission slips are now available from Mrs. Malo in the Black Box Theater. It is $10 to ride the bus (which is due when you turn in your signed permission slip) and then $5 for the show. You will pay that once we get there. Parents are welcome. I obviously don't need a permission slip for them, but I will need the bus fee to reserve a spot.
There is room for 40 people on the bus and it is a first come, first served basis. No, I will not hold your spot. AS OF 11/02 - there are FOUR spots left!!!!!!!!!!!!!

will depart from Parker High School at 5:00 pm. Most likely we will be back around 11:00 pm. You are responsible for your own dinner.
I picked this musical because I think it is very creative. There are strong characters and the music is terrific. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

10/24 Script Circle - Joined at the Head

For the October script circle, we will be reading the play "Joined at the Head," by Catherine Butterfield. We are hoping that this will be our spring student production.

Joined at the Head is the story of Maggie, a successful fiction writer, who receives an invitation to the home of her former high school flame, Jim. Maggie arrives for a weekend reunion to find that his wife, coincidently also named Maggy, is battling cancer. The unique friendship that develops between the three is reflected in the unusual style of the show - narrated as it is written by the novelist, but interrupted by characters that she can't control who step off the page and onto the stage.

Forced to struggle with the reality of death, and their human reluctance to accept mortality, Maggie and the other characters discover new joy in old friendships, strength in the vulnerability of self-revelation, and comfort in each other's company.
