A Christmas Carol!

Welcome to ‘A Christmas Carol’! We are so glad you are interested in being a part of this production. We are going to work together as a group to produce one of the best shows that the community of Howell has ever seen! There are a couple things I would like to make known from the start.

Auditions are Tuesday, 9/23, afterschool in the auditorium. Callbacks will be posted outside K-5 and listed on this website that evening.

AUDITIONS FOR THE CHILDREN'S ROLES - 10/08

· Performance Dates. The play will be performed 12/12 & 12/13 @ 7:00 and 12/14 @ 2:00. If you can’t make these dates, you CANNOT be in the show. You also need to be completely available the week before.
Rehearsals. Rehearsals will be Monday – Thursday from 2:40-4:30. For the first couple of weeks, you will not be called every day BUT you have to be there when you are scheduled to rehearse. When we get closer to the production we will start having rehearsals on Fridays. You will be given plenty of warning.
Theater Fee. Like most other extra-curricular activities, there is a fee to be involved in the play. It is $35. If you are concerned about financial matters, please see me individually. This fee is non-refundable.
Appearance. Once you are cast in the show, you will need to speak to the costume designer about any changes you would like to make to your appearance. Haircuts, piercings, etc. You will need to look time appropriate.
School Rules. School rules will be followed at all times.
GPA. Howell High School policy is that you have to have at least a 2.0 GPA to participate in any after school activity. The grades are from the last quarter.

Set in London during the late 1800's, A Christmas Carol is the story of Ebenezer Scrooge. Scrooge is avaricious, misanthropic and heartless, showing no feeling for the Christmas spirit. After he is visited by the ghost of his former business partner, Marley, he sees visions of his past, present and future that inspire him to become a zealously kind and amiable individual. The play is a celebration of Christmas, but it is also a story of redemption.
THE CHARACTERS :
Scrooge- Starts the play crabby & ill-tempered. As the play progresses, he goes through a change.
Belle- Scrooge’s love interest. Kind and loving, she breaks up with Scrooge even though she loves him.
Marley- Scrooge’s dead business partner. He comes to warn Scrooge about the ghosts.
Christmas Past- She shows Scrooge the past. Compassionate. She guides Scrooge on the beginning of his journey and is very gentle towards him.
Christmas Present- He/ She show Scrooge the present. Strong and bold, the ghost turns on Scrooge using Scrooge’s own words.
Christmas Future- Shows Scrooge what will happen once he dies. Menacing figure who doesn’t have any lines.
Fred- Scrooge’s nephew. Cheerful and optimistic. Refuses to give up on his uncle.
Bob Cratchit- Scrooge’s employee. Very patient and kind. Loves his family.
Gentleman- Comes to Scrooge for money for charity
Gentlewoman- Comes to Scrooge for money for charity
Caroline- Rents from Scrooge and asks for extension on rent due-date
Caroline’s Husband- Rents from Scrooge and asks for extension on rent due-date
Christmas Carol Ensemble (6 or so…)*- sings and gets terrorized by Scrooge

PAST:
Fan- Scrooge’s dead older sister. Loves her brother and comes to rescue him from school.
Young Scrooge- Scrooge as a teenager/ young man
Fezziwig- Scrooge’s old boss. Strong character, very over the top.
Mrs. Fezziwig- Scrooge’s old boss’ wife. Matches her husband.
Fezziwig Daughters (3) - The daughters of Scrooge’s old boss – very giggly girls.
Male Fezziwig Guest (3) - Is at a party at the Fezziwigs’ home

PRESENT:
Julia- Fred’s wife.
Lucy- Fred’s wife’s sister
Mr. Topper- Flirts with Lucy
Mrs. Cratchit- Scrooge’s employee’s wife. Motherly type. Very protective of her family.
Belinda Cratchit- 13
Martha Cratchit- 17
Miranda Cratchit- younger
Peter Cratchit- 12

FUTURE:
Business Men/Woman (3) - Is happy Scrooge is dead. Snobby and uncaring.
